Irish Language Information and Guide
Irish (Gaeilge) is a Goidelic language spoken in Ireland. The language is sometimes referred to in English as Gaelic (SAMPA: /"geIlIk/), Irish Gaelic, or Erse, but is more generally referred to in Ireland simply as the Irish language or simply Irish. Use of the term Irish also avoids confusion with Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig na h-Alba), the closely-related language spoken in Scotland and usually referred to in English as simply Gaelic (SAMPA: /"gAlIk/).
Irish has recently received a degree of formal recognition in Northern Ireland, under the Good Friday Agreement alongside the varieties of Scots spoken in Northern Ireland.

Irish Literature Information and Guide
For a comparatively small country, Ireland has made a disproportionate contribution to world literature in all its branches. The works that are best known outside the country are in English, but Irish Gaelic also has the most significant body of written literature, both ancient and recent, in any Celtic language, in addition to a strong oral tradition of legends and poetry. Irish Poetry Information and Guide
The history of Irish poetry is complicated by the fact that since at least the 14th century it has been the history of two poetries, one in Irish language and the other in English language. The complex interplay between these two traditions, and between both of them and other poetries in English, has produced a set of traditions that are both rich and difficult for the outsider to follow. A Load of Blarney
Excerpt from the new book Hot Footing Around the Emerald Isle, the story of Ian Middleton's first ever journey around Ireland.
Exerpt:"Blarney village is situated about eight kilometres north-west of Cork. The main attraction is the kissing of the Blarney Stone. Blarney Castle was built on solid limestone way back in 1446. Situated at the top of this castle is the fabled Blarney Stone. Kissing this stone is reputed to give you the gift of the gab, or talk blarney as the term goes. Queen Elizabeth I invented the term because of Lord Blarney's ability to talk endlessly for hours without ever actually agreeing to her demands......",
